Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has faulted the sincerity of Federal Government in the disbursement of revenue accrued from oil to states, urging APC led government in the country to be transparent to Nigerians.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Nigeria Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair 2017, at LeMeridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the Governor wondered why the country’s oil sector should be producing over two million barrels of oil per day yet revenue to states is pegged at one million barrels per day.
The Governor averred that ExxonMobil alone produces over eight hundred thousand barrels per day and challenged the federal government to uncap flurry of oil wells in Akwa Ibom State if the current administration wants to actualise its vision of producing over three million barrels per day.
“How can we be producing over two million barrels of oil per day yet the federal allocation to states is calculated at one million barrels per day ?There must also be sincerity to people.’’
The Governor charged multinational oil companies to show more commitment in relocating their corporate headquarters to their operational bases and promised good environment for ExxonMobil to relocate to the state.
“Let me welcome ExxonMobil to Akwa Ibom and let me assure you that I know what you want to move your headquarters to the state. If you give me commitment of 24 months, I will provide it.
“Let me say here, let our losses not be the gains of other areas who had never seen how crude oil looks like, let our losses not be the gains of our neighbouring countries, let our losses not be the gains of the Western world but let our gains be shared among ourselves “.
Earlier in his keynote address, the Minister for State Petroleum Resources,Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu , said one of the cardinal objectives of Buhari’s administration is to limit the volume of crude oil sent out for refinement, which is he said warranted government plan to give out license to modular refineries in the South South Region to boost daily oil production to three million barrels per day.
The Minister said he was in total support of oil companies relocating their corporate headquarters to their operational bases, but urged the state governments to provide the necessary security framework for peace.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Bassey Albert, said if the local content law is properly implemented, the operation of oil and gas industries will change.
He noted that the senate was awaiting the outcome of this year’s oil and gas fair.
Earlier in his message, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Local Content, Mr. Emmanuel Ekon said the essence of Local Content Law is to build capacity and called on oil companies to stop bringing expertrates for staff training.
Ekon urged participants to make good use of the opportunity.
The Nigeria Oil & Gas Opportunity Fair 2017, has as its theme, “Advancing Indigenous Participation in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry for National Development”. It is a-two day programme which features opportunity/exhibition guide, and hopes to provide platform for deliberation and networking by industry players.
