THAT GOVERNOR UDOM EMMANUEL’S COMMISSIONERS

The new Commissioners and Special Advisers on scrutiny reveal a careful blend of core professionals, technocrats, scholars and political strategists, to give the administration the needed balance going forward.

For those that made Governor Emmanuel’s list, let’s attempt a brief preface on them.

Ephraim Inyang:
For the Onna born top notch erstwhile Customs Officer, it was a perfect birthday gift. He Studied in University of Ibadan where he graduated with Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry (Second Class Upper Division) and also holds a Masters in Business Administration degree from University of Lagos. He is the founder of Transformation initiative for the Empowerment of Ibom People, TIEP, which mobilized support for Governor Udom Emmanuel’s election. He was the immediate past Works Commissioner, a portfolio he is most likely to retain in the new testament.

Akan Okon:
The Itu born seasoned financial expert boasts a wide spanning service in the banking sector at Managerial levels. Among other top flight executive positions, He served as Head, Investment Banking at First Atlantic Bank Plc. Area Manager, Calabar and Uyo at Standard Trust Bank Limited.

Mr Akan Okon was also Head, Treasury and Financial Institution Dept. – First African Trust Bank Limited, after serving as Branch Manager of its Apapa and its Victoria Island branches.
he holds a Masters degree in Business Management (MBA) in Banking and Finance from the University of Lagos, and a B.SC in Business Administration from UNICAL.

Uwemedimo Nwoko:
Hails from Ika. A successful Private Legal Practitioner who studied Law at University of Calabar. He has served as Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Akwa Ibom State

Monday Uko:
A knight of John Wesley and former Chairman of Obot Akara, and former ALGON Chairman, Akwa Ibom chapter. He studied Law in the University of Uyo, and previously served as Commissioner for sports.

Dr Glory Edet:
She is a two time Commissioner for Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Akwa Ibom state. in 1986, she emerged Best Graduating Student in University of Uyo Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension and proudly crowned it all as the first female Academic Doctor from Ini Local Government. She has many academic publications to her credit and is a scholar with international clout.

Victor Antai:
A two time chairman of Mbo Local Government Council and former Honourable Commissioner for Local Government /Chieftaincy Affairs. He holds a B. Sc degree in Geography from the University of PortHarcourt, Rivers State

Dr. Iniobong Essien:
Hails from Ibiono Ibom, is a former Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources, He was the Senior Special Assistant (Medical matters) to the immediate past Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Sen Godswill Akpabio. Among other academic qualifications, he graduated from the College of Medical Sciences, University of Calabar, Cross River State,

Barrister Ekong Sampson (SA)
A former Council chairman and member of AKHA representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, he was immediate past Commissioner of Rural Development.He studied Law at the University of Lagos.

Rev.(Arc) Ime Ekpo:
Born August 10, 1956, a native of Nsit Ubium LGA of Akwa Ibom State. Architect Ime Ekpo is a retired Director in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Renewal, Akwa Ibom State. He is an old boy of Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar, Cross River State, Nigeria.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Architecture from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

A Member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Arc Ime Ekpo is a three-time recipient of the Merit Award from the Akwa Ibom State Government.

He is also the General Overseer at God’s Own Ministry Int’l, 21 Akpan Essien Street, Uyo.

Orman Esin:
A former two time Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, will add to the growing number of Oro nation stakeholders playing key roles in the Udom Emmanuel administration. We will dwell more on him in part two of this piece for strategic reasons.

Linus Nkan:
He was born on October 24, 1968. A native of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA. He is a Fellow, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) 2012. He was an ICAN – Associate Member (ACA) as at 1998. He is an associate member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACITN).

He holds an MBA Master of Business Administration from Ado Ekiti University ( 2003 – 2005). He holds a B.Sc. – Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting (2nd Class Upper Division) from University of Cross River State (1987-1991) now University of Uyo. He earned his GCE – O’LEVEL, Sec. Comm. School, Iwawa Usung Eket, Asutan Ekpe (1980-1985).

Currently serving the Akwa Ibom State Government as Accountant General. He worked at Zenith Bank PLC, between 1997 – July, 2015. While at Zenith Bank, he served as Assistant General Manager/Zonal Head, Akwa Ibom – Supervising 6 Branches and 4 Cash Offices (2014 – July, 2015). Between 2013 – 2014, he was Assistant General Manager/Branch Head, Aka road Branch, Uyo.

From 2006-2013, he was Manager/Branch Head, Eket Branch. From 2001 – 2006, he was Head of Operation , Akure and Uyo Branches. From 2000 – 2001, he was Head of Operations, Warri Branch. From 1997-2000, Mr Nkang worked Internal Control & Audit Department Zenith Bank Head Office, Lagos.

He worked at Merchant Bankers Ltd., Lagos from 1993 – 1997. He served at FBN between 1992 – 1993. He started work at Ideal Flour Mills Ltd, Kaduna.

He has attended series of trainings locally and internationally in relevant areas including Leadership, Capacity building, Risk management, Credit management, High performance, Internal control and Audit/Fraud control management.

These include the following: Macro Economic Review for Bank Executives – Port Harcourt (June, 2015). High Performance People Skill – London Business School (2004). Leading High Performance Leaders – Facilitated by Harvard Business School Selling and Negotiation Skills Course Intermediate Credit Analysis Fraud Detection and Prevention Risk Management, Excellent Customer Service , Treasury Operations, Capital Market Operations, Comprehensive Banking Course.

Dr Dominic Ukpong:
A former Commissioner for Health, an ex-student of St Patrick’s college, Calabar, graduated with MBBS from the University of Benin; he is a consultant occupational physician with a diploma in Industrial Health from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He also holds certificates in Diving Medicine from the University of Aberdeen and many others. He is an indigene of Eket.

Hon. Udo Ekpenyong:
A skilled politician and adminsitrator from Ukanafun, he served as former political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Government.

This man looks good and his credentials look good for the information ministry. Now lets get to know him closer…

CHARLES UDO:
The gentleman is a fine professional with over 20yrs of diversified experience in digital and offline brand management, communications, media relations, and PR.

Started out as trainer and consultant at FITC before moving over to First Bank in 2003 to drive the bank’s highly successful brand transformation program. Joined Guaranty Trust Bank; in 2006, as Group Brand Manager and Head, Corporate Communications then KPMG in 2008 as Group Head, Corporate Communications at Diamond Bank. Chief Ideas Officer and COO at Adam & Agnes Ltd – a brand and marketing communications company with credible footprints in Nigeria working for notable brands like Exxonmobil, FCMB, AXA Mansard, LAMATA, AFREN, CNBC AFRICA, etc.

Last role as Head Brand & Marketing Communications at Wema Bank before invitation to join Team Udom

He brings to bear a conceptualized and orchestrated background with 100 major local and international advertising, brand, marketing communication and public relations campaigns (digital and offline).

A training faculty member of several reputable institutions including Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Nigeria Deposit Insurance Company (NDIC), FITC, Nigeria Institute of Training and Development (NITAD), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Fidelity Bank, Nigeria Civil Aviation Agency, Unity Bank, Dangote Group and the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).

MR. CHARLES UDO

Member of several committees of the Chartered Institute of Bankers’ of Nigeria (CIBN) including the ad-hoc committee on communication (Chairman) and Banker’s Dinner Planning Committee (member and chairman publicity sub-committee). Led the team that drafted the current CIBN Communications policy.Former Vice President of the Association of Corporate Affairs Managers of Banks in Nigeria. Member of Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria.

Charles is a worthy Uyo son, responsible father and ardent Catholic.

*ENO BLANKSON IKPE:                                                                                             Hails from Etinan LGA. She is Professor of History and International Studies and currently the Dean Faculty of Arts, University of Uyo. She is a scholar of international acclaim with an intimidating resume.

She is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary History who studies in Nigeria and Germany. She gathered working experience in the University of Magdebury (Germany), University of Lagos and the University of Uyo. In the University of Uyo, she has served as Director, Centre for Cultural Studies, Head, Department of History and International Studies, Vice Dean, Faculty of Arts; Dean, Faculty of Arts and on many University Committees.

She studied at the prestigious University of Muenster, Germany, to which she maintains regular contact as visiting scholar. She is a recipient of various academic awards including the prestigious awards of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Her major interests are in the fields of Social and Economic History where she has various publications including her seminal publications in food, sexuality and gender studies. Her publications include: Food and Society in Nigeria: A History of Food Economy, Food Customs and Cultural Change 1900-1989, Stuttgart: Franz Steiner Verlag; Europe in the Early Modern Period 1400-1700, Lagos: Darlington and Sons, 2000; “Human Sexuality in Nigeria: A Historical Perspective”; (Ed.) African Women and Power in the 20th and 21st Centuries, Lagos: Fragrance, 2009.

She is an excellent mixer and loved by those who have passed through her. Congratulations!
