Emirates Flight Crash Lands At Dubai; Indigo Flights Avoids Mid Air Collusion

The Emirates aircraft which was coming from Thiruvananthapuram crash landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday afternoon. The incident was reported by Dubai government media office on its official Twitter account. No causalities have been reported so far.

Emirates Flight Boeing 777-300 A6-EMW which took off from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport was supposed to land at Dubai International Airport at 12.50 pm, when it had to be crash landed and later on exploded on the runway.  The 282 passengers, including 7 infants and 18 crews who were onboard are reportedly safe. There were nearly 226 Indians among them. The airport however, had to be shut down as the heavy fumes were coming out from the grounded plane.

“There were 275 passengers and crew on board. Our main priority now is the safety and well-being of all involved. We are extending full co-operation to authorities & emergency services managing the situation. We will update the Emirates website & social media channels as more information becomes available,” stated Emirates in their issued statement. We can confirm that there are no fatalities among our passengers and crew. All passengers and crew are accounted for and safe,” they further added. Assuring the safety of the passenger, the Dubai media office too tweeted, “Emergency response teams at Dubai Airport have fully extinguished the fire on the Emirates plane. All passengers and crew were safely evacuated.”

The inside sources have stated that at least 10 passengers were treated for the inhalation of smoke and burn injuries at the local city hospital, while one of them has been admitted there for a “long term treatment.”

The cause of the accident is yet to be disclosed by the airlines.

Wednesday’s incident is considered to be one of the most serious accidents in the history of Emirates since its birth in 1985.

Meanwhile, closer home, two aircrafts of Indigo Airlines narrowly escaped mid air collusion  over Guwahati Airport on Wednesday.

Two planes, both belong to Indigo Airlines were nearly involved in head on collusion over Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. Although both the flights are safe, at least four passengers and two of its crew were reportedly shaken and had to be given medical attention.

According to the sources the incident happened when an Indigo aircraft coming from Mumbai to Guwahati was about to land at the Guwahati Airport even as another Indigo aircraft on the way to Chennai took off. The latter crossed the path of the Mumbai flight nearly causing the head on collusion. Speaking to media on the incident one of the Indigo spokesperson said, “The IndiGo flight en route to Guwahati experienced turbulence due to monsoon.” This caused the Chennai bound flight to decrease their altitudes by 250 to 300 feet, thus inadvertently crossing the path of another flight.  The spokesperson also informed that the four passengers and two crews were given medical assistance.
