An Officer of National Investigation Agency (NIA) was Shot dead by unknown assassins in point blank range on Sunday morning in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh. Though his wife too was shot along with him, she managed to survive but sustained serious injuries and is admitted in a Noida hospital.
The officer has been identified as Tanzil Ahmed is deputy superintendent of police with the NIA. Ahmed along with his wife and children was returning after attending a wedding in Bijnor. They were travelling in a WagonR, when unidentified men riding a motorcycle shot the couple and fled from the scene.
Talking to media, Station House Officer Rajkumar said, “He was attending his niece’s marriage. He was with his wife and two children. Two bike-borne assailants shot fire at them. They were referred to the Cosmos hospital.”
While Tanzil Ahmed succumbed to his injuries and was declared dead at a nearby hospital, his wife is in critical condition and has been admitted to a hospital in Noida.
According to the official reports Ahmed’s body is kept in a Moradabad hospital and NIA and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) teams have reached there to carry out their investigation into the crime.
The NIA has clarified that Tanzil Ahmed was not part of the Pathankot attack probe.
Confirming it that Ahmed’s murder was a well planned attack NIA IG Sanjiv Kumar Singh also added that presently UP police, STF and the ATS is carrying out a joint investigation.
