Trouble continues to brew at World Culture Festival as Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has refused to pay the fine, even as NGT (National Green Tribunal) has given them the ultimatum for paying fine by tomorrow.
NGT has given warning to Art of Living that it has time till tomorrow to deposit Rs 5 crore as fine, failing which law will take its own course.
Interestingly, the tribunal has turned down an urgent hearing to a fresh plea seeking stay on the event on the ground that it had not taken requisite permission from fire department, CPWD and Police. It has directed CPCB, MoEF and DPCC to issue a proper course to the Art of Living regarding the disposal of municipal waste.
However, responding to the notice of fine imposed Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said that he is ready to go to jail but ‘won’t pay a single penny’. “We have not done anything wrong. We have been taintless and will remain so. We will go to jail but not pay a penny,” said Ravi Shankar.
The NGT had imposed a fine on Wednesday of Rs five crore on Art of Living as environmental compensation for causing environmental damage while clearing the flood plains of Yamuna.
