Former US Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has vowed to help unseat House Speaker Paul Ryan over his refusal to back the candidacy of Donald Trump.
On Thursday, Ryan Told Cnn he is "just not ready" to endorse the presumptive Republican nominee, hours after US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said he is committed to supporting Trump's presidential bid and called on fellow Republicans to do the same.
Palin supported businessman Paul Nehlen, who is challenging Ryan for his congressional seat in the Wisconsin Republican nominating contest on August 9.
“I will do whatever I can for Paul Nehlen,” the former Alaska governor and Trump supporter told CNN on Sunday. “This man is a hardworking guy, so in touch with the people.”
"Paul Ryan and his ilk, their problem is that they become so disconnected from the people they are elected to represent, as evidenced by Paul Ryan's refusal to support the GOP front runner, that we just said, 'He's our man,'" she said.
On Friday, Trump continued his criticism of Ryan, denying the House speaker’s assertion that he “inherited” the Republican Party mantle.
“Paul Ryan said that I inherited something very special, the Republican Party,” Trump tweeted. “Wrong, I didn't inherit it, I won it with millions of voters!”
After Trump's commanding victory in Indiana's primary last week, his remaining challengers, Ted Cruz and John Kasich, both suspended their presidential bids, leaving the businessman tycoon on an uncontested path to the nomination.
Trump’s campaign has been marked by controversial statements, including with disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants and Muslims.
