Militants have opened fire on a security checkpoint in the western Saudi city of Ta’if, killing a soldier in ensuing clashes.
Private Saeed al-Harithy lost his life on Sunday after two assailants shoot at the checkpoint before retreating to the mountain village of Thaqif, where a Gun Battle took place, the official Saudi news agency SPA reported.
SPA described the incident as a "foiled attempt to carry out a terrorist attack".
The news agency further noted that Saudi troops found an explosive vest and bomb making material during their operation against the militants.

Late on Thursday, gunmen also shot and killed Saudi Corporal Khalaf al-Harithi while on duty at a police station outside the holy city of Mecca.
Saudi Arabia has been hit by a spate of deadly shootings and bombings targeting security forces or the country’s Shia minority since last year.
The local branches of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group have claimed responsibility for many of the attacks.
This is while the Riyadh regime is widely viewed as one of the major supporters of Daesh, mainly operating in Syria and Iraq.
Takfirism, which is the terrorist group’s trademark, is largely influenced by Wahhabism, the radical ideology dominating Saudi Arabia and freely preached by Saudi clerics.
