Barack Obama Slams Trump: So Much of Our Politics Seem Petty and Mean, Trafficking in Bombast

Barack Obama slammed Donald Trump without calling his name at John McCain’s memorial, saying that “so much of our politics seem small — petty and small.”

“Trafficking in bombast, and insult, and phony controversies, and manufactured outrage,” Obama continued, “It’s the politics that pretends to be brave and tough but in fact is born of fear.”

“John called on us to be bigger than that.” He said that despite his political differences with Sen. McCain, “when all was said and done, we were on the same team.” “We considered our political battles a privilege.”

“John cared about rule of law, separation of powers, those rules and norms are what bind us together that give shape, order to our common life, especially when we disagree,” Obama said. “He understood if we bend the truth to fit political expediency democracy will not work,” he continued.

President Obama said that “John understood that part of what makes our country great is that our membership is based not on our bloodline.”

“Not on where our parents or grandparents came from or how recently they arrived, but on adherence to a common creed: that all of us are created equal,” President Obama conrinued.

President George W. Bush also fired shots at Trump during his remarks:  “John McCain respected the dignity inherent in every life…a dignity that does not stop at borders…detested abuse of power.”

It’s as though McCain knew that only persons who could stand up and rebuke everything Donald Trump stands for are Barack Obama and George W. Bush. They picked up where Meghan McCain left off.
