Donald Trump, citing no evidence, accuses former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates of committing a crime, in a desperate attempt to discredit her ahead of her testimony about Michael Flynn.
Trump tweeted: “Ask Sally Yates, under oath, if she knows how classified information got into the newspapers soon after she explained it to W.H. Council.”

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said, “The idea of the President of the United States essentially threatening a witness, he’s basically accusing her of leaking, we have never had that before. We’ve never had presidents who did this kind of thing. The idea that the president — the guy who’s in charge of the Justice Department — is threatening a witness is really kind of disturbing.”
You will recall, he libeled former President Barack Obama by accusing him of wiretapping his phones in Trump Tower during the 2016 presidential campaign. He then accused Obama national security advisor Susan Rice of committing a crime by unmasking Michael Flynn.
Sally Yates was doing her job when she went to the White House to discuss her concerns about Michael Flynn and the Russians. It’s just that simple.
Um, by the way, he spelled ‘council’ wrong. It should be ‘counsel’ but why bother?
Reaction on Twitter:
Sally Yates did more to stop Trump in her two weeks as Acting Attorney General than Congress has in 3.5 months. #SallyYatesIsAPatriot

This man operates so beneath the dignity of the office. Mob bosses intimidate witnesses, not Presidents. #yourpanicisshowing https://t.co/toR56J159w

This sounds like he is trying to influence a congressional investigation by accusing her of a crime, no? https://t.co/9taJudcNIP

Sally Yates is more a patriot than Trump who has repeatedly praised Putin while bashing US intel, Obama, & the free press!

Donald Trump's attempts to discredit Sally Yates are all the more despicable as they are freighted with misogyny. #SallyYatesIsAPatriot
