Cornell Brooks, president and CEO of the NAACP, ripped Donald Trump in a tweetstorm over his imaginary claim that 3-5 million people voted illegally in the 2016 presidential election.
Cornell Brooks warned that the move on Trump’s part is to engage in voter suppression of people of color in the 2018 and 2020 elections and that it will be met with resistance. I would also add that Trump has claimed that the imaginary voter fraud occurred in urban areas — that’s code word for black areas.Trump tweeted: “Look forward to seeing final results of VoteStand. Gregg Phillips and crew say at least 3,000,000 votes were illegal. We must do better!”

By the way, Gregg Phillips, who runs VoteStand, hasn’t provided one shred of evidence to back up his claims. He has gone dark on Twitter and Facebook, yet we are subjected to a president who governs on a hunch and conspiracy theories.
1)I assure you, in the memory of @NAACP martyrs, efforts to suppress votes will meet unrelenting #RESISTANCE by Americans. @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/kVUOeWrg4m

3) A serious discussion of the sacrifices made for the vote & the unconscionable price of voter suppression is overdue. @realDonaldTrump https://t.co/kVUOeWrg4m

1) Only place you'll find millions of fraudulent ballots are beside B. Obama's fake birth certificate–inside #POTUS 's imagination.@NAACP pic.twitter.com/SCIKbShthH

More on Trump’s imaginary voter fraud claims from the New York Times: “There were more than 135 million ballots cast in November. A careful review by The Washington Post documented a grand total of just four cases of voter fraud nationwide — including an Iowa woman who voted twice for Mr. Trump. And during the recount litigation in Michigan, the president’s own legal team told a court that “all available evidence suggests that the 2016 general election was not tainted by fraud or mistake.””
“But don’t take it from them. Just ask yourself if this story seems plausible: Sophisticated cheats committed widespread election fraud to the tune of five million votes and vanished without a trace. But they forgot to steal 80,000 votes in three states (Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin) that would have been decisive for Hillary Clinton. It’s as if the thieves from “Ocean’s Eleven” broke into Fort Knox, left behind the gold bars and took a stamp collection.”
