Donald Trump tweeted “cancel order” on Boeing’s new Air Force One because it is pricey. Um, this is from the man who has filed corporate bankruptcy several times and left taxpayers and employees holding the bag.
Yep, another day, another fight. And without offering facts to back up his claims. Boeing’s stock price also fell after Trump’s tweet and comments.
Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!

He told reporters: ““The plane is totally out of control. It’s going to be over $4 billion for Air Force One program and I think it’s ridiculous. I think Boeing is doing a little bit of a number. We want Boeing to make a lot of money, but not that much money.”
USA Today reports: “The U.S. Government Accountability Office estimated in March that the entire program would cost about $3.2 billion from the 2010 through 2020 fiscal years, including $2 billion for research and development.”

Boeing issued a statement: “We are currently under contract for $170 million to help determine the capabilities of these complex military aircraft that serve the unique requirements of the President of the United States. We look forward to working with the U.S. Air Force on subsequent phases of the program allowing us to deliver the best planes for the President at the best value for the American taxpayer.”
So, what sparked Trump’s attack on Boeing?
The The Chicago Tribune published an article about 20 minutes before he tweeted. Here’s an excerpt:
The brain trust at Boeing, among the city’s largest companies and a global aerospace and defense powerhouse, must cringe every time President-elect Donald Trump riffs on foreign policy, especially when it comes to dealing with China.
