Ronald Gasser was charged with manslaughter in the Joe Mcknight Shooting death. The move comes after Gasser was released after the shooting.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office initially said Gasser acted in self-defense stemming from a road rage incident.
Authorities say Gasser fatally shot McKnight, 27, from inside his vehicle during a road rage incident on Dec. 1 in Terrytown.
Sheriff Newell Normand during a press conference that they decided to file charges against Gasser after speaking with witnesses that was key to the case. He added that he spoke with several other witnesses since the incident. He said a witness claimed that Donald Trump’s election was the cause of the incident. That was untrue.
The sheriff said racial and homophobic slurs were used against his officers during the course of the investigation. He then proceeded to repeat the slurs knowing his press conference was being broadcast.
