Edgar Maddison Welch was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon after he acted on a Comet Ping Pong restaurant in the #PizzaGate right wing conspiracy theory.
D.C. police responded to restaurant in the 5000 block of Connecticut Avenue NW at about 2:58 p.m. on Sunday to a call of a man with a firearm.
Welch, who is from Salisbury, NC, pointed a gun at an employee of the restaurant. He was later arrested without incident after terrorizing customers and employees for hours. Police recovered an additional weapon from his vehicle.

During the interview with police, Welch revealed that he had come to the Comet restaurant to self-investigate “Pizza Gate,” which is a fictitious conspiracy theory.
Fake news have consequences. Innocent people could have been hurt in this nonsense. The story was that was hyped by right wing lunatics such as Gateway Pundit and Infowars (whose founder Alex Jones has Donald Trump’s ears). The conspiracy theory was that the pizzeria was a hub of child sex trafficking and involves Hillary Clinton, John Podesta and others.
