Detroit Pastor Wendell Anthony: Trump Visit to Black Church is a “Scam”

Detroit pastor Wendell Anthony eviscerated Donald Trump, saying his visit to a black church on Saturday was nothing more than a “scam.”

Anthony, who is the president of the Detroit NAACP, said Trump’s campaign strategy to the “old southern strategy wrapped up in a new suit in 2016” and straight out of Lee Atwater’s playbook.

During an appearance on CNN, Anthony told host Fredericka Whitfield that Trump’s sudden concern for black Americans reminded him of a P. T. Barnum quote: “There’s a sucker born every moment.”

Anthony unleashed a can of whoop ass, rattling off a litany of racist behavior from Donald Trump including the housing discrimination lawsuit in the 1970s and birtherism. He also said he’s not engaging in civil rights, but “civil wrongs.”

Anthony said Trump’s visit to the Detroit church “is nothing more than a ruse. This is a scam.”“Mr. Trump is seventy years old, I believe. That election now is less than seventy days from now. It’s gonna take a whole lot of conjecture and whole lot of programming to undo what has been done.”

He continued, “Before you talk about the can-do, let’s talk about the undo.”  “Let’s undo what Mr. Trump has done. Part of what he said is that we need to unite the country. Well his policies, or lack thereof, his commentary, his rhetoric, is doing no more than dividing this nation. When you talk about ‘I don’t want black people counting my money,’ or rather have ‘short folk with yarmulkes counting my money.’” “That’s divisive!”

Anthony scoffed at Trump’s outreach with less than 70 days away from the election. He ripped Trump on his economic policies or the “lack thereof” will devastate the black community. Anthony asked “How many black firms have you joint ventured with Mr. Trump? How many black lawyers, black accountants and black engineers did you have working on Trump Towers?”

Watch Pastor Wendell Anthony’s brutal takedown of Donald Trump:

Separately, The Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity blasted the Trump campaign in a scathing letter that was signed by representatives of 10 different Christian denominations: “Racism, bigotry, misogyny, hate speech, sexism, divisiveness, threats, a call to harm, discrimination, bullying, and fearmongering have no place in the White House in the greatest country in the world.”
