SAN FRANCISCO, April 24, (THEWILL) – Super Eagles’ head coach, Gernot Rohr has confirmed that he would be with the team after the World Cup following the renewal of his contract for the next two years.
Rohr, who was a guest on Supersports Monday Night of Football, predicted that Nigeria can win the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations based on FIFA ranking as he spoke on several issues on the team ahead of the FIFA World Cup in Russia.
“We are presently sixth, which means that we are among the tournament favourites. So that is my target,” he told the panel of analysts.
“We will do our best in Russia. I love the solidarity and fighting spirit of the team.
“This is a team that will play for Nigeria and Carl Ikeme our keeper, who is recovering from acute leukemia, will take the kick-off against England at Wembley on June 2.”
The German tactician also stated that the Super Eagles will face Atletico Madrid in a friendly game on May 21 at the Godswill Akpabio International stadium, Uyo.
“The date for the match is May 21. If they (Atletico Madrid) are coming to Nigeria for the match, it will be a good one for us. But I don’t know yet which team would play against Atletico Madrid.
“It maybe CHAN Eagles or selected local-based players but the main Eagles players will not be part of it.
I love the game to be played so that we will use the opportunity to say thank you to the government, governor and people of Uyo for their support to the Super Eagles during our stay there.”
