Buhari Congratulates CHAN Eagles For Beating Angola

SAN FRANCISCO, January 28, (THEWILL) –
President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated the Super Eagles on their spectacular 2-1 win over Angola in a quarter final match played on Sunday at the ongoing Championship of African Nations (CHAN) in Morocco.

With the win, Nigeria’s home-based Eagles, known as the Chan Eagles, have scaled through to the semi-finals and will now play Sudan in a semi-final encounter in Marrakech on Wednesday for a ticket into the final.

Buhari’s congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

Shehu said Buhari, who watched the match in his hotel room in Addis Ababa after a long day of meetings, which started at 8 a.m. and ended at 5.30 p.m., wished the team “the very best for the upcoming matches.”

The eagles fought hard and came back from a goal down to extend the game into extra time.

Anthony Okpotu scored the equaliser at the 90th minute to keep hope alive while Gabriel Okechukwu sealed the win at the 109th minute.
