BEVERLY HILLS, December 12, (THEWILL) – The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, on Tuesday, described the 21 new Ibadan kings as ‘entertainers of the year’ following plots by the Kings to remove the Olubadan.
The Kings, who were recently installed by the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to the disdain of the Olubadan, had on Monday issued a 21-day deposition notice on the Monarch over alleged denigration of Olubadan stool.
According to the Kings, unless the Olubadan retraces his steps on some of his activities which are alien to the stool, they will be left with no other option than to recommend his removal from office as the paramount ruler.
Some of the accusations leveled against the Monarch are that his wives (Oloris) still attend the meeting of the traditional council, an action, they claimed, was alien to the throne of Olubadan.
They stated further that the Monarch was taking actions on behalf of the Ibadan Council without making recourse to them as stipulated by rules and regulations guiding the traditional council.
They insisted that they, who are kingmakers, that recommended Oba Adetunji to the Oyo State government for approval, still retain the power to ask for his removal, if he remains impervious to correction.
In a press release issued by the Director, Media and Public Affairs to the Olubadan, Mr Adeola Oloko, the Olubadan, responding to the threat, declared that they (21 new Kings) lacked the powers to unseat him.
He stated that ‘the so-called Oba-in-Council’ was unknown to the Oyo State Chieftaincy Laws, and wondered how a group of educated individuals such as the embattled high chiefs could resort to illegality by commenting on a matter before the Court as he had challenged their installment in Court.
Meanwhile, hearing continues on Wednesday 13 December at the Oyo State High Court, Ibadan in the suit filed by the Olubadan against the Oyo State Government on the installation of the 21 Kings.
