Former Attorney General Eric Holder is hinting at a run for president in 2020. If he does run, you can be the politics of racial division will intensify.
Holder, asked if he was planning to run for president in 2020, replied, “We’ll see.”
The former AG hinted at his presidential ambitions at a breakfast hosted in Washington by The Christian Science Monitor.
“I think I’ll make a decision by the end of the year about whether or not there is another chapter in my government service,” he said.
Holder says that in the meantime he’ll be traveling around the nation making the case for redistricting for congressional elections.
“These are in some ways the first critical steps for putting in place people who will take power back from politicians and give it to the people,” he said. “There’s a system now where politicians are picking their voters as opposed to citizens choosing who their representatives are going to be. And it’s a fundamental affront to our system of Democracy.”
Holder, a close associate of President Barack Obama, also predicted that the former commander in chief will hit the campaign trail this year in support of Democratic candidates looking to change the balance of power in Congress.
“I expect that later this year, you will see him campaign,” he Holder. “He will be focused on the races that will matter for redistricting. “He has identified this as his chief political activity in his post presidency.”
