Trump feels Bannon’s conservative frustration (video)

President Donald Trump on Monday said he understands why his former campaign and White House adviser is ready to rip apart the Republican Party out of frustration.

“There are some Republicans, frankly, that should ashamed of themselves,” Trump said during a Cabinet meeting. “So I can understand fully how Steve Bannon feels.”

The president’s remark follows Bannon’s appearance at the Values Voter Summit last week, where the Conservative strategist declared war on Washington’s GOP establishment.

The Breitbart executive cited Judge Roy Moore’s defeat of the GOP establishment endorsed incumbent, Sen. Luther Strange, in the Alabama Senate special election earlier this year as proof that grassroots conservatism is powerful enough to dismantle the current Washington status quo.

Watch Bannon’s full speech:

“In Alabama, the elites, the permanent political class, as personified by Mitch Mcconnell, and Stephen Law and Karl Rove and that clique that has been running this town 30 years or 40 years, raised over $30 million to go after a good and righteous man, Judge Moore,” Bannon said.  “This money was not used to debate the great issues of the day. It was not to debate illegal immigration, or America’s foreign-policy or Obamacare. That money was used to destroy Judge Moore and his family.”

Bannon said that Moore, who only raised about $2 million in the race, has now proven that the money of Washington corporatists is no longer going to be the determining factor in congressional races.

The conservative firebrand went on to suggest that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is headed for the modern political equivalent of Julius Caesar’s Ides of March fall from power.

“Mitch, I don’t know if you’re watching, I don’t know if you are watching Values Voters, maybe you have your staff. But if I can take a riff on Plutarch and Shakespeare, up on Capitol Hill, because I’ve been getting calls, it is like the Ides of March,” Bannon said.

He added: “They’re just looking to find out who’s going to be Brutus to your Julius Caesar. Yeah Mitch, the donors are not happy, they have all left you. We cut off your oxygen off… Money is not courageous, but money is smart. Right now, money is sitting there saying, ‘hey, I see these folks, they’re worked up, they’re mad– and they’re mad for a reason.”

Bannon suggested that coming political upsets are going to bring about a new era in the United States.

“We are in the valley of decision,” he said. “This is a fourth great turning in American history. We have had the revolution, the civil war, the great depression and World War II, this is the fourth.”

Trump appears happy to watch Bannon’s effort to clean house in Congress unfold.

“We’re not getting the job done,” Trump said. “And I’m not going to blame myself, I’ll be honest. They are not getting the job done.”
