After strategic meetings of the ECMI team in October, the ECMI has now expanded cooperation networks in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
In October 2017 Ecmi Senior Research Associate Dr. Zora Popova and Communications and Outreach Coordinator Ms. Tamari Bulia traveled to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan to conduct interviews for the project Bridge-Building and Integration in Diverse Societies and to attend strategic meetings at the OSCE Academy in Bishkek and the American University of Central Asia (AUCA).
At the OSCE Academy, the ECMI team delivered a presentation about ECMI and a lecture with a general introduction to Minority Rights in Europe. The lecture was attended by the students of the OSCE Academy and faculty members who have expressed interest in the ECMI’s activities, internship opportunities and in the topic of minority protection in Europe overall.
During a strategic meeting with the Director of the OSCE Academy Mr. Alexander Walters, a range of issues and possibilities for cooperation were discussed and subsequent steps were agreed upon. As a result, we are pleased to share that the ECMI and the OSCE Academy in Bishkek have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a partnership and develop long-term, effective relationships aimed at the implementation of joint teaching and research projects.
At the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), the ECMI team met with faculty members and researchers and the Head of the International Office Ms. Asel Umetalieva. Within the frameworks of a new cooperation, the AUB and the ECMI will work together to organize joint conferences and academic programs (including a summer school and internship programs for students), as well as joint research activities and publications.
The ECMI cooperates with a number of universities and MA programmes across Europe. The ECMI teaches modules and supervises dissertations in the Bachelor of Science in European Studies at the University of Southern Denmark, and in the Master of Arts in European Studies at the Europa-Universtitat Flensburg. Among our other cooperation partners are the Master Programme in “Studies in European Societies” at the Center for German and European Studies at the St. Petersburg State University, the Master in Intercultural Communication and European Studies of the University of Applied Sciences in Fulda, the Master in Political Science of the University of Zagreb, the Master in International Politics and International Law at the Christian-Albrechts-University in Kiel, and the University of Swansea.
