The Prison Service is showing weakness - from Tommy G a former prisoner

Dear PW.

A small group of prisoners refused to go back to their cells in HMP Birmingham and it took seven hours for the prison to gain control with the help of the Police. Pitiful.
As an ex prisoner myself; I will say this: I do not blame the prison officers one bit for keeping themselves safe and bringing in the riot police. With the greatest of respect; many prison officers on the younger end were frightened to death of inmates when I served my stretch and I have seen this first hand. Many prison officers do not have the life experience to do the job.
I have seen prison officers being mocked; bullied and threatened. I have heard prisoners indirectly for want of a word threaten their families and let's face it; it isn't hard to find out where a prison officer lives. No gold coins would entice me to agree to my own daughter working in a prison. It wouldn't be happening.
Every time the prisons bring in the police; they show a weakness and that weakness is: they cannot successfully control their prisons.
Liz Truss made a statement saying that those responsible for causing the unrest will face added time on to their sentences. Well Liz Truss; I have got news for you; those responsible couldn't care less about added time on their sentences. If they cared; they wouldn't riot; right? These are the typical inane comments by MP's that stir laughter. Is that all Liz Truss can say? Tut; tut; tut.

Keep up the good work PW. Kindest regards Tommy G
