Grand Avenue sidewalk repair set for summer

Grand Avenue's Sidewalks are scheduled to be renovated from Mary Street to McDonald Street this summer. All plans, permits and schedules have been approved.

Milling, resurfacing and landscaping are part of the project.

32 trees will be removed - seven palms and 25 shade trees. Two trees will be relocated.

This project is badly needed and we of course could do with Main Highway being redone as well. I'm not gonna bitch and moan about the trees this time as we really do need the sidewalks repaired. They are an eyesore now and dangerous to walk on.

The project is to start at the end of the school year, it has been postponed from last fall so as not to interfere with the holiday shopping season.

Our post on the terrible shape of Main Highway's sidewalks, sort of got something done, the county added more tar to the sidewalks to keep the bricks from coming out. Keep in mind, us tree huggers are a big part of the problem as the large trees up and down Main Highway would have to be removed in order to do the job right and I guess the county (and the City), don't want to deal with all the noise that will come from locals if and when the trees are touched.

More details to come.

UPDATE: Here is the a Dropbox file with the 85 page plan.
