A recent Jeopardy contest featured the two best human trivia minds and Watson, an IBM computer. In this contest of speed and knowledge, Watson kicked human ass. And unlike humans, Watson has no political opinions, nor bias.
So my suggestion is that the next time a politician gives a speech — or holds a press conference — let’s have Watson call out all the lies. We could start with Trump’s State of the Union address this Tuesday night.
Ideally, a red light would flash right in front of the podium so the attendees and the TV audience would get a visual signal. Imagine what that would do for ratings. But with the Republicans in charge of Congress, that won’t happen. We’ll just have to rely on a TV chyron or the like.
I realize that Watson will be unable to analyze puffery. So when Trump says he’s the ‘greatest’, ‘I’m the best negotiator’, ‘America is open for business’ or some such unquantifiable rubbish, we will have to move on by.
But when he says that the American economy was stagnant under Obama, or that the stock market had its best year, or that he was responsible for such and such company making this or that investment, Watson can call bullshit on it.
Here are other Trump lies that Watson would have flagged without breaking a sweat:
‘There is “substantial evidence of voter fraud”.’
‘Dianne Feinstein said “there is no collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia.’
“We have signed more legislation than anybody. We broke the record of Harry Truman.”‘The diversity visa lottery program, “they give us their worst people, they put them in a bin,” and “the worst of the worst” are selected.’
“We have signed more legislation than anybody. We broke the record of Harry Truman.”
‘Missouri is one of “13 states this year have seen unemployment drop to the lowest levels in the history of their state”.’
“Black homeownership just hit the highest level it has ever been in the history of our country.”
“Hillary Clinton lied many times to the FBI.”
Says the tax bill “is going to cost me a fortune, this thing — believe me. Believe me, this is not good for me.”
I could go on, but I think you get the point.
