There is a new desperation in Trump’s tweets. Let’s consider one:
Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump8:36 AM – 31 Dec 2017
Great wealth? Let’s assume he’s talking about the stock market. Yes, a healthy stock market is good for 401Ks. But the ownership class grabs the majority of the spoils. Even so, Trump will have to up his game. In his first year, the stock market increased 25%. Very respectable, but a smaller increase than three years during the Clinton Administration and a 26.5% uptick as recently as 2013 (not 2103 as previously stated). And it isn’t where you start; it’s where you end. Ask Herbert Hoover.
Trump’s wealth transfer is locked in with his tax ‘reform’. A tax ‘simplification’ which only added loopholes to the loopholes.
ISIS is not America’s terrorism problem — Americans with high-powered, rapid-firing, large-capacity guns are. Not to mention every armed wife-beater. And pissed off ex-employee that ends up shooting people. And homicidal gang-banger. On that front, you would be crazy to vote for the Republican status quo.
Is the Veteran’s administration in a better place? Perhaps, but it is hard to pinpoint where Trump contributed. Where funds have increased, it has been to programs that rely on private companies. The administration even tried to take money away from a program that provided housing for homeless vets.
‘Judges’: Here it boils down to Gorsuch. He at least is qualified. Unlike some of the most embarrassing choices for Judgeship ever foisted on the Senate for consideration. Even Republicans are gobsmacked that the Administration would have the nerve to nominate these incompetents.
How is the border stronger? The wall is still a paper project. And even if built, it wouldn’t solve the stated problem of reducing drug smuggling. Ask any drug user over the last 50 years if he has had any problem getting drugs. The key to less drug use is fewer drug users. Education and rehab is the best start.
As for foreign workers: hotels, food processors, farmers, construction companies, and lawn care concerns aren’t about to reduce demand unless employers start going to prison.
The ‘2nd A’? Trump has been better for the NRA than they dared hope. But the majority of Americans, including the majority of gun owners, disagree with his promiscuous position on guns. And not one thing has been done to reduce the likelihood of guns getting to criminals and the insane
Trump’s boast that his tax cuts are the ‘largest ever’ has been thoroughly debunked. And they are hardly the boon he advertised. They disproportionately benefit the wealthy and corporations (which is another way of saying the wealthy). And for companies they are permanent. Some people — especially the middle-class living in ‘blue states’ – would actually pay more taxes from the get-go.
So the answer to Trump’s question is this. Smart voters would vote for Democrats because they are tired of having their pockets picked and their voices ignored by a lying, wannabe autocrat and his bully boys in Congress. They are tired of an administration that talks only to poor, scared, uncritical white folk, racists, religious fanatics and the cynical powers that be. And they are tired of the lies, the incompetence, the stupidity and the fragility emanating daily from the weakest man ever to be President.
