Jim Hoover, Artist with Cask demonstrating his talent.
Just have a few happenings at CASK to tell you about!
First of all, let’s get this out of the way….it’s time to renew your membership! February 1st is the start of our new year. Whether you’re an artist member or an art lover who generously supports CASK, we truly appreciate having you on our members list. As always, the membership fee is just $30. We take cash, check and even cards! You can always just drop it into the mail to CASK, P.O. Box 651, Shell Knob, Mo 65747, but we’d really love it if you’d pop into the gallery to drop it off so we can see you! We have lots of new stuff for you to see, too!
Okay, now on to the more “fun” stuff! Our Paint n Pours are still going strong, people really love coming and creating their own artwork! In case you’re not familiar…this event is usually once a month at the gallery. The cost is $25 person. You will go home with a 16×20 acrylic painting that you’ve painted yourself! Bring your own beverage (that’s where the “pour” comes in!) We provide snacks and all paint supplies. The January 20th PnP is already filled up. Jim Hoover will be leading this one, doing a “winter wonderland” scene. The next one will be Thurs, February 11th, led by Nicki Hanna. The subject will be a Mandala. The March event will be led by Jo Daniels on Wed., March 16th. Jo’s not determined the subject for that one yet, but we will post it on our website and Facebook as soon as we know. All three of these will be held in the evening…we’ll start painting at 6:30 and be done around 8:30. You can come as early as 6. If you are interested in signing up for one, you now need to call Fran Crosthwait, who is taking over the scheduling from Jo Daniels this year. Fran’s phone number is (417) 858- 0219. You can also sign up for it at the gallery. Because this activity is SO popular, the only way we can ensure your spot is with a PAID in advance reservation. If you end up not able to make it, we can apply your payment to a future one. If you know ahead of time that you cannot make it, we can give you refund…a 48 hour notice would be appreciated for that, so that we can contact someone on the waiting list to fill your spot…yes, there is always a waiting list on this!!
Our big exciting news for the new year is that we are going to be on TV! David Oliver from KOLR Channel 10 came to interview CASK on Wednesday, Jan. 13th. The segment will be on the 10 news on January 31st, and at 9:00 news on their sister station, ch. 27. The link to the segment will also be on their website, OzarksFirst.com. We will link it to our website as well, and post it on our Facebook page too. Our outgoing president and founding member, Marcia Nicholls executed a flawless interview, as did our artist-on-the-spot, Jim Hoover! We’re very anxious to see the finished product! We are hopeful that this exposure will help us gain more attention in the community, and let folks know exactly where we are located so they can find us easier!
Beginning in February, we will be holding special “solo artist exhibits”. This is where we will highlight a solo artist, (or even a small group of similar media artists if they so choose to do it as a group.) We will hold an opening reception to kick it off, and the show will run approximately 2 months so that people will have ample time to get in to the gallery to see all their great work! This will be a mix of our own artists as well as “guest” artists from other areas of the Ozarks.
We are kicking off this series with our very own Marcia Nicholls! Marcia is a very talented and prolific artist. Though she shows her art regularly in the gallery, that doesn’t begin to show the extent of her talents. This is your chance to get in to see and purchase a much wider variety of her incredible art work. Exact dates have not been set yet, but they will be soon and we’ll let you know.
Okay, well, I could go on and on here, but this is enough for you to read in one email!! We have lots of fun ideas for events this new year, and we so hope you’ll come along for the ride! If you are on Facebook, and haven’t already, please go like our page…just do a search for “Creative Arts of Shell Knob” and our page should pop right up, then just hit “Like Page”. It’s a good way for us to get news to you quicker than other forms of media!
