Pachelbel canon (Canadian Brass)



Edit: Well, I hadn't planned it this way -- as barts says, change is inevitable -- but why not end with Pachelbel and the Canadian Brass? When I played tuba in the Parkside High-School band, Charles Daellenbach --- still the Brass's formidable tuba player --- used to drop around twice a year for a "tuba clinic". The Canadian Brass was in fact the brass section of the Hamilton Philharmonic.
Yeah, no shit.

The tuba --- like all bass instruments --- is the unsung foundation of any band music. Take away the bass and all music sounds like absolute garbage.

Daellenbach did and does magic with an instrument that has big heavy valves, a huge and unforgiving mouthpiece, and a gigantic column of air that has to be moved just so.
