IMF delegation to visit Ghana to assess economic recovery programme

Accra, June 7, 2023 – A team from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to arrive in Ghana today, Wednesday, June 7, for a crucial assessment of the country's Economic Recovery Programme.

This visit comes after the approval of Ghana's $3 billion bailout on May 17.

The approved arrangement includes an initial disbursement of $600 million, with subsequent disbursements scheduled every six months based on program evaluations conducted by the IMF Executive Board.

During their one-week visit, key institutions such as the Bank of Ghana, the Finance Ministry, and other relevant stakeholders will engage in discussions to chart the way forward.

The primary objective of these engagements is to evaluate the implementation of Ghana's Economic Recovery Programme and assess the effectiveness of the measures taken to address the economic challenges the country is facing.

The IMF, renowned for its role in supporting member nations during economic difficulties, provides vital financial assistance, policy advice, and technical expertise.

Ghana's Economic Recovery Programme is designed to strengthen the country's economy, promote fiscal discipline, enhance stability in the financial sector, and foster sustainable economic growth.

Ghana's collaboration with the IMF signifies its commitment to implementing sound economic policies and reforms that address macroeconomic imbalances and pave the way for long-term stability.
