“With impassive approach to issues, Wakf board making a mockery of Muslims,” felt activists

Finding fault with the way the Telangana State Wakf Board is maintaining secrecy in disclosing the agendas of the meeting even with its own members and the lawlessness allegedly being prevailed in the board, the community activists in the city said “Wakf board is being run by flouting the rules meant to fulfil the objectives of the institution thereby making a mockery of the rules in general and Muslim community in particular.”

While the board meets only two times last year, this year it has not opened the account yet though the new body was formed almost nine months ago. Despite the fact that the board was met only for two times last year and that it is losing several prime properties in the court due to lukewarm pursuit of the cases, the present and newly elected body too appeared least interested in conducting the meeting regularly,” rued Syed Iftekhar Hussaini, Wakf Activist.

Although the meeting was called on July 5, he said, no points of agenda were disclosed or discussed in advance with the members that left them completely clueless about the issues proposed for the meeting. “The less the board is conducting meetings and maintaining secrecy on the agendas, the more the board is losing prime properties one after another in the courts. This is the mockery of the Muslim community,” opened Iftekhar.

“In the absence of the agenda, the members were forced to endorse a seal of approval on the issues being presented during the meeting without even knowing the content of the matter. This is simply a gross violation of the wakf act that clearly said that the copy of agenda should be served to the members well in advance,” he contended.

While raising concern over the way the meeting was called by the board management without serving the agenda to the members, Abul Fateh Syed Bandagi Badesha Quadri, a member Telangana State Wakf Board said, “I have received intimation from the Waqf Board only three days before the schedule meeting on the July 5. Soon, I wrote to the Chief Executive Officer reminding him that the agendas and agenda notes of the meetings need to be supplied atleast seven days before the scheduled discussion to help them ponder over the issues carefully with all its consequent implementations. However, providing the agenda just before the meeting amounts to forcing the members to take hasty decisions more likely in favour of powers that be which is not only unethical but also malafide.”
