Harris Folks and Zack Hutchison, who are pupils at the town’s high school, were in fine form when they competed on an event hosted by Glenrothes Boxing Club.

The 12-bout card was held at the Gilvenbank Hotel and the pair, who are members of the Glenrothes club, came up trumps on the judges scorecards when they stepped onto the canvas.

Harris, 14, a third year pupil at Lochgelly High, showed his boxing calibre earlier this year when he won a silver medal at the Boxing Scotland Eastern District Development Schools and Junior Championships, and it was on show again as he won his 59kg fight against an opponent from Dunfermline Boxing Club.

Zack, who is a year below Harris, got the better of his opponent, at 56kg, from Cleland Miners Boxing Club and Allan McCulloch, a coach with Glenrothes and who is Harris’ grandfather, praised both for their efforts.

“It was a really tough-matched show,” he said.

“Every single fight went down to the wire, and it made for a great show. Everybody said that. There were no stoppages, no easy victories, and a few split decisions.

“The two of them boxed really well, and both won their fights. Zack is a real talent.”

A packed house – tickets sold within a week – of around 240 at the show, which was hosted by MC, Craig Stephens, and attended by four-time Irish heavyweight boxing champion, and a former sparring partner of Mike Tyson, Joe Egan, and former Emmerdale actor, Scott Peden, who wrote the walk-on song for Allan’s daughter, Emma, who became Fife’s first female professional boxer in 2019 after winning four Boxing Scotland Elite Championship titles, and reaching a ranking of number one in both Britain and the Commonwealth.
