Many have asked about the quality of prison food , where I am currently at in Washington State , this food will keep you alive, but definitely not fine dining quality if you are going to take your lady or wife on a date. All the food is precooked in a factory , placed in large plastic bags, frozen, and then reheated and served to use, so to say the least, the food is always terrible. You have to buy commissary to get half way decent food, and even then it is still only fair quality. Hence, why on visits I look forward to gorging !!
Now for the quality of medical care.... in the BOP, it was nearly nonexistent. You hope and pray you do not get sick !!You have to fill out a kite for sick call. The sick call nurse will see you and if they feel it is necessary will refer your to the PA. The PA can recommend follow up treatment and the URC ( utilization review committee  will approve or deny  the recommendations. I have been referred for knee surgery in the past 10 years and the last denial it received said I was denied for surgery for being "obese" Do I look obese to  you ? Mainly it comes down to finances, if they do not want to pay for it, they will deny it.

So with food and medical, it is another two very good reasons to deter youth from a life of crime and any jail/prison time.  Food is terrible, physical and mental health care is nearly non existent.
