A shocking case has come out of Mumbai, the financial capital of India. A Mumbai court granted provisional Bail to a 62-year-old man arrested in a fraud case two days after his death on "medical and humanitarian grounds". This person's name was Suresh Pawar. He died hours after the hearing of his bail plea concluded on May 9, while Additional Sessions Judge Vishal S Gaik granted him provisional bail two days later.

Suresh was severely suffering from diabetes and other ailments

Pawar was arrested on charges of selling property to a real estate agent on the basis of forged documents. Pawar was in jail from 31 December 2021 and applied for interim bail for 6 months on medical grounds. Pawar had said in his petition that he was also suffering from severe diabetes and several age-related ailments. In February, Suresh injured his toe and was admitted to a government hospital. The petition stated that his toe developed gangrene and had to be amputated.

Leg had to be amputated due to lack of medical treatment

The High Court had in March directed the jail authorities to provide Proper Medical Treatment to Pawar. Suresh had withdrawn the bail application from the High Court on April 19. The same day his health deteriorated and he had to be admitted to the hospital again. However, due to lack of proper medical treatment, his wound became septic and his leg had to be amputated below the knee.

Court granted posthumous bail

According to the application, the accused had lung infection and sought temporary bail for 6 months for medical benefits. In its order, the court said that in view of Suresh's age, serious medical complications and greater need for medical care, his prayer for interim bail was considered purely on humanitarian grounds. But Suresh died before this bail was granted.
