During a protest march organized by Hindu Organizations in Maharashtra's Kolhapur, the police resorted to lathi charge to control the situation. The march was held in protest against the posting of Aurangzeb-related statuses on social media by some Muslim youths. Some protesters have been arrested by the police. Section 144 was invoked between the system in view of the tension between the two communities. Hindu organizations also called for a bandh.

Bandh was called

Hindu organizations called upon Hindus to gather at Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk. Crowds of people started gathering to join the protest march from 9 am. Gradually the crowd grew and the situation became tense. After that, the police resorted to baton charge to control the situation. The Maharashtra Home Department ordered the police to bring the situation under control as soon as possible.

Why are Hindu organizations protesting?

Ahead of the Kolhapur protests on Sunday, some youths in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar waved posters of Aurangzeb during the procession. After that, some youth in Kolhapur posted a status on social media and it also had pictures of Aurangzaib. Hindu organizations complained to the police in this matter and demanded the arrest of such people. After which Kolhapur bandh was also called.

Protesters also closed shops and pelted stones, police lathi-charged

The situation turned tense this morning when crowds were gathering on the call of Hindu organizations. Shops were closed due to Kolhapur being closed. But the protesters of Hindu organizations started pelting stones on the closed shops. To bring the situation under control, the police resorted to lathi charge and some protesters were arrested.

The police administration gave this argument, appealing to both communities for peace

An official Kolhapur police statement said that when curfew has already been imposed and action has been initiated against the two people who made the objectionable posts, why the protest march is still being held. Due to which tension is likely to increase. No one has the right to take law and order into their own hands.

We will not tolerate glorification of Aurangzeb: Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made a statement that Aurangzeb's Mahimamandan will not be taken. From the last few days, a trend of praising Aurangzeb has started in different places of Maharashtra. We are investigating it. At least we have an idea who is behind this? But in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Maharashtra, it is certain that Aurangzeb's Mahimamandan will not be accepted.

Instead of creating religious harmony, government is inciting spoilers: Pawar

Sharad Pawar slammed the Shinde-Fadnavis government on the issue, saying that the government's job is to maintain religious harmony, but the BJP is inciting those who create tension between the two communities. If someone showed a poster of Aurangzeb in Aurangabad, why is there a protest in Pune and Kolhapur?
