To please the farmers, the government has announced to increase the Support price of one quintal of paddy by Rs. 143 to Rs. 2183 this year. This increase in support prices is the second largest increase in the last decade. It is worth mentioning that in 2018-19, the support price of one quintal of paddy was increased by Rs. 200.

The support price for kharif crops of 2023-24 has been increased from 5.3 percent to 10.35 percent. In terms of rupees, the support price has been increased from Rs.128 to Rs.805 per quintal.

Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the increase in the support price of Kharif crops.

Elaborating on the decisions taken at the end of the meeting, Food Minister Piyush Goyal said that farmers will benefit from the increase in support prices by the government at a time when retail inflation is falling.

The support price of paddy has been increased by seven percent. The support price of jowar (hybrid) and jowar (maldandi) has been increased to Rs 3180 and Rs 3225 respectively. Which is 7 and 7.85 percent higher than 2022-23 respectively.

The support price of one quintal of maize has been increased by 6.5 percent to Rs.2090. The support price of one quintal ragi has been increased by 7.49 percent to Rs 3846. The support price of one quintal of mung has been increased by 10.35 percent to Rs 8558. The support price of one quintal tuwer is 6 . 06 percent has been increased to Rs. 7000. The support price of one quintal of ard has been increased by 5.3 percent to Rs 6950.

In another important decision taken in the Cabinet meeting, Rs 89,047 crore has been approved for allotment of 4G and 5G spectrum to BSNL . Apart from this, an allocation of Rs 2980 crore has been approved for the scheme for exploring coal and lignite.
