Relief and rescue operations have been completed after the Train Accident in Odisha's Balasore on Friday evening. Now efforts to resume rail operations on this route are going on war footing. A public interest petition has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the train accident.
Demand for formation of Commission of Inquiry
The petition has sought the formation of an inquiry commission headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court. which investigates the Odisha train accident of 2 June 2023. The petition has been filed by Supreme Court lawyer Vishal Tiwari. It has been asked in the petition that the commission submit its report to the court within two months. The petition also sought formation of an expert commission headed by a retired judge of the Supreme Court, including a technical member, to analyze and review the current risk and safety measures in the railway system and advise.
3 trains collide with each other: The worst train accident in the country
Notably, Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Super Fast and a goods train collided with each other near Balasore in Odisha on Friday, in what is being called one of the worst train accidents in the country. Meanwhile, the Odisha government said the death toll in the train accident was 288, but after investigation, it has announced today that the death toll is 275 and the number of injured is 1175. According to Chief Secretary PKJ, some bodies were counted twice. He said that after detailed verification and Balasore District Magistrate's report, the death toll has been declared to be 275.
