Delhi: 4,500 NDMC contract staffers to be regularised

After a gap of eight months, a meeting of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) took place on Tuesday without four non-official members, whose positions are lying vacant as they are yet to be nominated by the Centre.
However, a decision was taken to initiate the process of regularising 4,468 regular muster roll workers engaged in horticulture, civil, electrical, sanitation and other departments. NDMC officials said some of these workers were engaged for over two decades and couldn’t be regularised for various reasons.
“There has been a long-standing demand for regularising these workers, which includes those who had joined on compensatory grounds,” said an NDMC official. A member of the council said the decision would be implemented as soon as the modalities were finalised.
NDMC also decided to regularise and create a separate cadre for contractual doctors working for 15-20 years. Virender Singh Kadian, AAP MLA from Delhi Cantonment and NDMC member, said, “For employees working on contract for the past 15-20 years, the council has decided to regularise them and create a diminishing cadre so that they can avail necessary benefits. The decision was taken after it was realised that it would be unfair to ask them to compete with fresh hires to become permanent. Their RR guidelines will specify their salary and other facilities.”
Currently, there are 20 contractual specialists, 43 Medical Officers, including 23 general medical officers, six homeopathic, five ayurvedic physicians, seven dental doctors and two assistant veterinary surgeons.
