The director of neurology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne will try to overthrow Treasurer Josh Frydenberg in the next election in 2022.

Dr Monique Ryan will run as a freelance in the Melbourne Domestic Headquarters of Kooyong, which Frydenberg holds by a five percent margin after swinging more than eight percent against him in the 2019 election.

Dr Ryan said she raised her hand to run because she could no longer sit on the sidelines as the government continued to vote with Barnaby Joyce against climate action.

“Every day I go to work and make tough decisions to help Australian children. Is it too much to ask our government to do the same? she said.

“As a woman, mother and doctor whose job it is to protect our children, I can’t take it anymore.”

His campaign will have the support of a group of local volunteers Kooyong Independent.
