In order to ensure safety of the pilgrims during Char Dham Yatra, Uttarakhand police have set up temporary stations and posts on the Yatra route. State Disaster Response Force has also deployed 12 more teams in addition to its 48 sub teams. Garhwal Inspector General Ajay Rautela said that more supplementary teams consisting of PAC and local force will be deployed after May 23.
IG Rautela said, “For safe and sound passage of pilgrims, 43 seasonal posts have been made in addition to 82 police stations, 130 reporting posts and 51 watch and ward stations. At 21 places SDRF and at 42 places district disaster management teams have been stationed. In addition to this, at 115 places traffic police and at 112 places tourist police have been stationed. At 23 places Water Police and divers have been stationed.”
He further added, “For now, the required supplementary force consisting of PAC and local force is there. After the elections additional supplementary force will arrive.”
SP and Commandant of SDRF, Tripti Bhatt said, “In addition to our 48 sub teams we have deployed 12 more teams. Snow fall this year has damaged few of our posts in Kedarnath but that also has been taken care of.”
It is important to mention that SDRF is also sending two teams before May 5 on old pedestrian route to Kedarnath and Badrinath. This is for studying those routes to develop future trekking tourism plan. It is pertinent to mention here that sacred portals of Gangotri and Yamunotri are to open on May 7, whereas Kedarnath shrine will open on May 9 and Badrinath on May 10.
