Working towards the target of making 5,000 homestays, the State already has 802 new homestays with electricity being supplied at domestic rates to such enterprises. Further, Mussoorie and Kedarnath will also be linked by ropeway soon. Such investment and policies are boosting self-employment in the State, he added.

For the integrated development of Uttarakhand, for the first time the Government envisioned growth centres to facilitate income generation based on locally available resources in 670 Nyay Panchayats of the State. Such growth centres have been started in more than 100 places so far.

Referring to the forest wealth of Uttarakhand, Rawat said that pine is often criticised for forest fires but the State Government is working on generation of electricity from Pirul (dry pine needles).

This will not only mitigate the forest fire problem but also generate electricity and income for the locals. The CM spoke about the various initiates taken towards enhancing education along with provision of 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker members of general category.

Unemployed youths torch State Govt’s effigy

When the State Government was organising ‘Young Uttarakhand, towards entrepreneurship and employment’ , the federation of unemployed youths held a demonstration at the protest site, demanding jobs.

The members of the federation who had gathered at the protest site intended to take out a rally, but they were not provided permission for it by the district administration. Later, the agitating members torched the effigy of the State Government by way of venting anger.

Speaking of the stir, they staged, the president of the federation Bobby Panwar said that the State Government, on one hand, is celebrating the year as employment year and, on the other, no employment is being provided to the unemployed.

He further said that instead of squandering away money on such a programme meant to confuse the people, the State Government should have firmed up a policy for providing employment. Panwar said that the BJP had promised to fill all the vacant posts within six months since coming to power.“But even after almost two years in power, the State Government is yet to live up to the promise. We are all frustrated with the apathy the State Government is showing to us. They have deceived us,” he said.

The speakers on the occasion warned that the unemployed youths would teach BJP a lesson in the upcoming Lok Sabha election if the recruitment process is not initiated soon in the interest of the unemployed.
