Cong’s minority cell stages rallies to flay Pulwama attack

Effigies of Pakistan torched in all districts headquarters of U’khand

To register its strong protest against the terrorist attack on Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy at Pulwama, the minority cell of Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) burned the effigies of Pakistan in all the district headquarters of  the State on Tuesday.

In the State Capital, the Congress workers gathered at Rajiv Bhawan, the state party office, on the day where a condolence meeting was held. A silence of two minutes was observed to pay homage to the martyrs of Pulwama attack and the brave hearts of the State who have lost their lives in terrorist attacks and anti-terrorist operations.

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Pritam Singh said that the terror attack on the CRPF convoy is an act of cowardice by the terrorists who are being aided and abetted by Pakistan. He expressed concern over the steady rise in the incidents of terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir with passing time.

He also said that Pakistan has been violating the ceasefire with impunity. “This is what is resulting in the martyrdom of our brave soldiers. But regrettably enough, no effective action has been taken against Pakistan and the terrorists nurtured by the neighbouring country. This is all the more unfortunate,” he said.

The president of the minority cell of the State Congress, Tahir Ali said that the terrorist activities are highly condemnable. He further said that apart from acting tough against the terrorists, the Centre should work on a fool-proof strategy to ensure safety of the armed forces personnel.

After the condolence meeting was over, the Congress workers marched to Astley Hall on Rajpur Road where they consigned to flames the effigy of Pakistan while yelling slogans like ‘Pakistan Murdabad’.

Among those present during the protest rally were the former State Minister Tilak Raj Behed, Jaspur MLA Adesh Chauhan, the State Congress vice-president Surya Kant Dhasmana, Mahanagar Congress president Lal Chand Sharma and district vice-president Rajendra Singh Chauhan besides Garima Dassauni, Akbar Siddiqui, Kadir Hussain, Tosir Ahmed and Naim Ahmedm Jahid Ansari.

Congress suspends crucial meetings

As a mark of respect to the martyrs of Pulwama attack and anti-terrorist operations in Kashmir valley, the State Congress suspended the crucial meetings of the charge-sheet committee and election campaign committee which were to be held in Dehradun on Tuesday.

The State Congress president, Pritam Singh, read out the condolence message at the party office on the day and as the meeting commenced, he said that these meetings would now be held on Wednesday. Notably, the Congress leaders had said in State Assembly on Monday that the proceedings of the House should be suspended for the day after homage was paid to the martyrs-Majors Chitresh Bisht and V S Dhaundiyal.

However, the demand not being accepted, the Congress members boycotted the proceedings of the day which included tabling of the Budget by the State Government.
