Voters’ Helpline 1950 To Be Launched Formally Today

The State’s Chief Electoral Officer Sowjanya said that the voters can use the voters helpline number 1950 to verify their names and details on the voters list. This toll-free number will be formally launched on February 1. The voters can call this toll-free number to seek information regarding getting a voter identity card, BLO and polling booth, she said. The chief electoral officer said this while addressing the media here on Thursday.

She shared information about voters’ data in the final publication on January 31, 2019 of the special summary revision based on the Vidhan Sabha photo electoral rolls as on January 1, 2019.

Sowjanya informed that the final publication of the special summary revision has been done though even now application can be submitted for adding name to the electoral rolls as this is not the final voters’ list.

The electoral roll will be accorded final shape till the last date for nomination in the election. However, any person wanting to add name or get any changes done will have to submit application for the same about 10 days before the last date for nomination. Instructions have been issued to lay special focus on women voters and voters in the 18-19 years age group.

The chief electoral officer further informed that 100 per cent voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines will be used in the Lok Sabha elections. Mock polls and demonstrations are being organised at the village level across the state to inform the public about electronic voting machine (EVM) and VVPAT.

The district election officers have been directed to organise voter awareness activities under systematic voters’ education and electoral participation programme (SVEEP). As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, directions have been issued regarding transfer of officials related to the election.

Informing about the details in the final publication, Sowjanya said that after the special summary revision, the total number of voters in Uttarakhand is 76,28,526. These comprise 39,84,327 men and 36,43,969 women and 230 voters of the third gender. The total number of polling stations is 11,235 which include 2,548 in urban and 8687 in rural areas. Similarly, total polling station locations are 8,367 which include 1,107 in urban areas and 7,260 in rural areas. The most remote polling centres are the primary school at Kanaul in Tharali Vidhan Sabha Constituency and primary school at Dumak in Badrinath Vidhan Sabha constituency.
