The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) sent a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary Radha Raturi seeking information about the Women policy which was made in 2003. The policy consists of nine points focusing on the upliftment and betterment of the women of Uttarakhand.
According to the officials from the SCPCR, the points were drafted and submitted by the current chairperson of the SCPCR, Usha Negi after which a primary policy was made for the state.
The policy covers nine points which dwell on political opportunities for the women belonging from the Uttarakhand, better education opportunities for the girls in primary education with different other benefits, counselling session for women interested for jobs, better opportunities for women in the government fields, remarriage supports for the widowed women, secure laws for the women right to property, steps to ensure the security of women, and to spread awareness about gender equality.
“A primary policy was made by the government in 2003, but there is no data about the work done by the government or officials under it. We are seeking an insight regarding the work done in the field like how much fund has been provided in the schemes under the policy and what the officials has done in the last 16 years. If there are loopholes in the policy or scheme we will give our suggestion in it,” the official added.
The chairperson of Scpcr Usha Negi said, “The policies were suggested by us when I was a member of Mahila Panchayat. Our initiative honoured women who did great in various fields. All the nine policies were made to give empowerment to the women even living in the remotest village of the state. It also aims to honour girls and women doing exceptionally great in their field. In the recent scenario if we see the crime against women has increased. If all these policies would have been working properly then the condition could have been better. The aim to send a reminder is to make these policies strong again in the state.”
