Benzema To Leave Real Madrid After 14 Years

Real Madrid’s decorated striker Karim Benzema will leave the club at the end of the current season, marking the end of his remarkable 14-year tenure.

The 35-year-old Frenchman, who joined the Spanish giants from Lyon in 2009, will depart on a free transfer.

During his illustrious career at Real Madrid, Benzema clinched five Champions League titles and four La Liga titles.

Despite having a year remaining on his contract, Benzema’s departure comes as a surprise, especially after Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his expectation of the striker staying for the next season.

Real Madrid acknowledged Benzema’s exemplary behaviour, professionalism, and embodiment of the club’s values, stating that he has earned the right to decide his future.

“Benzema as been an example of behaviour and professionalism, and has represented the values of our club,” Madrid said. “He has earned the right to decide his future.”

Benzema’s exit follows the recent announcements of Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio also leaving the club this summer.

With a total of 25 major titles, Benzema holds a club record at Real Madrid. As the current Ballon d’Or holder, he played a pivotal role in Madrid’s Champions League triumph last season, contributing 15 goals to the competition. Among his other achievements are five Club World Cups and three Copa del Rey victories.

Benzema, who made 647 appearances for Real Madrid, sits second on the club’s all-time goalscoring list with 353 goals, surpassed only by Cristiano Ronaldo.

He is said to be heading to Saudi Arabia.
