India’s Digital Strike on China : Government Bans 59 Chinese Apps including Tik Tok and Share it

Last week, Indian intelligence agencies had suggested the government to ban 52 Chinese Apps for security reasons. Now the government has taken an action and announced a ban on 59 Chinese Apps Including UC Browser, Share it and TikTok, and more.

Indian government mentioned that these Apps are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. These 59 Chinese apps will be banned for both mobile and non-mobile usage. The government press release stated, “The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking ofAccess of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of state and public order”.

The following Chinese apps are now banned in India :

Among the banned mobile apps are video-sharing social networking app Tik Tok, UC Browser and file sharing app Shareit, WeChat, etc.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs, has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps.
