Adamawa State Ministry of Transport to Recruit 100 VIOs

The Adamawa state Ministry of Transport has completed all arrangements to recruit about one hundred Senior and Junior Vehicles Inspection Officers (VIOs) to fill up the vacancies existing in the state.

The Commissioner incharge of the Ministry, Alhaji Yahya Farouk who made this known in an interview with The Scope in his office during the week,   said that they have since completed arrangements to recruit mechanical engineers into VIOs.

Alhaji Yahya stated that since the creation of Taraba state, the VIOs unit has been suffering due to lack of man power.

He also disclosed that a memo has been submitted to State House of Assembly for approval to establish Adamawa Traffic Agency that would handle all problems concerning transportation in the state.

The commissioner said the agency when established will deal with all revenue collections. and vehicles  inspections, as is in other states like Gombe, Taraba and Bauchi in the Northeast.

Alhaji Yahya also said that his ministry could not establish state driving school, but granted certificates to seven private schools now training prospective drivers in the state under his ministry`s  supervision and the Road Safety Corps unit.

He said the seven schools are now operating in the North, Central and Southern zones of the state in order to promote commercial driving sector.

According to him, “The private school owners have fair charges that any prospective driver can afford to pay because the ministry is very seriously supervising them”.

He recalled that approval has been given by the government to purchase 50 new buses to improve the sector and negotiation have been going on between the ministry and the contractor who would supply the new buses.

The commissioner further revealed that as soon as the negotiation is completed the present number of buses plying the Nigerians roads would increase.
