|Gov Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow|
Fellow citizens of Adamawa State, It is with very high expectations and indeed gratitude to God Almighty that I address you today on the occasion of the New Year 2018. we have every reason to give thanks to God Almighty for seeing us through the year 2017 and keeping us alive to witness the year 2018. The year 2017 was indeed very challenging for Nigeria as a Country and for our people.
We encountered several economic challenges occasioned by lack of resources to meet up the high expectations of our people. However, we in Adamawa State have every cause to express our appreciation to God because despite the difficulties encountered by most states, we had fulfilled most of our obligations to our people. We have continued to deliver on our projects without any stoppage. We have paid our workers their salaries unceasingly and most importantly we have cleared all arrears of the Local Government Staff Salaries by the end of last year, Fellow citizens of Adamawa State, the year 2017 has witnessed massive physical and social transformation in various sectors of our developmental strides, with the construction and completion of over 315 roads across the State and the reconstruction and rehabilitation of six general hospitals in health sector.
Government is also involved in transforming our dwindling educational sector through our declaration of State of Emergency on Education, with the construction and rehabilitation of class rooms and hostel blocks across the State. We are also turning around the Agricultural sector with the purchase of 'about 150 tractors, fertilizers and other farm implements. Let me emphases the fact that we are not magicians but we are determined to prioritize the needs of our people within our limited resources, That's why we have paid our workers their salary unfailingly and most importantly we have now cleared all our inherited arrears of Local Government Staff salaries by the end of last year.
While we witnessed a few security challenges in some parts of the State, by and large the state was relatively peaceful and our people had continued to live' peacefully with each other. Populations of some of our cities such as Mubi have risen to almost three times what it was before we came to office in 2015. We have continued to enjoy the confidence of all the people living in Adamawa State especially people from other parts of the Country. This is an index of the peaceful nature of our state and the fact that our development strides have yielded positive response from critical stakeholders in the stale.
As we enter the year 2018, our resolve to continue providing democracy dividends to our people remains unshaken. Our commitment to effective governance is total. Our system is gradually maturing to the extent that we have reached a level where our budgeting system has been perfected and we are starting the year with a new Budget. Our relationships have matured to a level that we have full harmony among the three branches of Government. I must commend and appreciate both the Leadership of the Legislature and the Judiciary for their support and commitment to the development of the State. It is gratifying to observe that the usual Executive Legislative face-off that characterized the past has been permanently consigned to history. The Leadership of the House must be commended for this level of harmony.
As we begin the year 2018, let me call on all the people of Adamawa to rededicate themselves to the ideals of unity, peace and the development of our dear state. Let us rise to the challenges of politics anchored on the need to take decisions in the best interest of our people. On our part, we are committed to continuing on governance process based on our subsisting mandate. We shall never renege on our oath of office. That is our word, and it is also our bond.
We wish you all a very prosperous New Year and abundant blessings from God Almighty.
