Bindow Vows to Push for Passage of GEOB into Law

The Gender and Equal Opportunity Bill,GEOB might soon be Promulgated as a law asAdamawa State Governor, Sen. Muhammadu Bindow Jibrilla has vowed to ensure the bill is passed by the State house of Assembly as soon as possible.

Stating the importance of the Bill at a rally organized by the The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund ,UNICEF, to mark the 16 days of Activism in support of the passage of the GEOB in the State, the Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Martins Babale, while addressing the gathering of women led by The Commissioner,Ministry of Women affairs and Social Development, Aliyu Bello Tola, said the state is aware of the importance of passing the law to guide and protect Women and Children.

"We are going to fastrack this particular bill as we take it to the house to see that it is passed within a short period of time so that the State governor will assent to it immediately, because we are thoroughly against violence against women. We support the empowerment of women which is very important for sustainability. We need to also protect the underprivileged especially women and when this bill has been passed, women will have adequate representatives as we ensure there is zero violence against women in the society" He said.

"Apparently, Gender equality is not only a basic human right, but its achievement has enormous socio-economic ramifications. Empowering women fuels thriving economies, spurring productivity and growth as we work closely with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and empowerment of women which aims at promoting women's engagement in Peace & security in Northern Nigeria" He added.

The Commissioner, Ministry of Women affairs and Social Development, Aliyu Bello Tola, who was represented by his Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Maisaratu Bello, earlier while addressing the Governor said the purpose of the advocacy visit was to canvass for the upliftment of Socio- Economic and Political Emancipation of Women and Girls , to mark the International Day for the elimination of all forms of violence against Women and the Vulnerable.

She said it is worthy of note that the Governor is a Gender Friendly one which is quite evident with the various legacies on women empowerment, appointment and interventions on issue and matters that affect Women in the State.

"It is in view of this, that we feel obligated to pay advocate campaign to his excellency to further solicit for your fatherly support for the intensification of policies to prevent cultural and traditional harmful practices on women and girls in the state"

She added that the Government policy of SOCIAL CHANGE for everyone in the state, and the ministry in its responsibilities to support the CHANGE AGENDA deems it fit to pay the visit and present to his Excellency a copy of the draft bill that will inspire change amongst women and sustain all programs and projects that are constituted for the empowerment women in the State.

She said that the Campaign for this year which commences on the 25th of November to end 10th of December 2017 is geared on the Slogan " LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND: with the Theme:
