Shardiya Navratri 2022 Day 8: Know about Maa Mahagauri, Ashtami puja significance, and mantras

The festival of Navratri is celebrated with utmost religious fervour across the country and all nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped during this span of time. This year, Shardiya Navratri started from September 26 and will continue till October 4, Tuesday.

Navratri Mahashtami will be celebrated on October 3, Monday, this year and Mahanavami falls on October 4. Devotees worship Maa Mahagauri on Day 8 of Navratri. The Ashtami and Navami days of Navratri have a special significance in Hindu religion. On both days, Kanya Pujan is performed at homes.

Families invite nine little girls, who did not reach their puberty yet, to their homes to worship them and to feed the girls, who are a representation of the nine forms of Goddess Durga.

Significance of Maha Ashtami

The eighth day of Shardiya Navratri is known as Mahashtami. Hindus worship Goddess Mahagauri on the eighth day of Navratri that is on Ashtami Tithi. Kanya Pujan is also performed on this day.

It is believed that doing Kanya pujan has many benefits, including acquiring knowledge, power, wealth, success, and forgiveness for prior sins.

The eighth day of Navratri is known as Ashtami Tithi or Mahashtami Vrat. On the eighth day of Navratri, devotees worship Goddess Mahagauri, the eighth form of Navdurga. It is said that Goddess Shailputri was extremely beautiful and had a fair complexion when she was 16 years old. Due to her fair skin tone, she became known as Goddess Mahagauri.

Shubh muhurat for Kanya Pujan on Durgashtami

The Ashtami will start from 06:47 pm on October 2 and will continue till 04:37 pm on October 3.
According to the Hindu calendar, the best time for Havan Pujan on Ashtami Tithi will be from 10:41 am to 12:10 pm.

  • Ashtami Tithi Begins – 6:47 pm on October 2, 2022
  • Ashtami Tithi Ends – 4:37 pm on October 3, 2022
