Punjab CM Channi to meet Congress high command on new cabinet expansion

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi has been called by Congress high command in Delhi to discuss the new Cabinet Expansion in Punjab. Earlier Charanjit Singh Channi sworn in  as first dalit Chief Minister of Punjab on Monday, replacing Capt. Amarinder Singh.

However, Punjab Congress is yet to announce the date of new Cabinet expansion, as the ministers to be included in still not clear after two recent meets. Probably this will be the last time the high command will meet senior leaders and Punjab CM for the names of new cabinet ministers. Though, the President of Punjab Congress, Navjot Singh Sidhu has not attended last meeting in Delhi on Wednesday. Channi and Sidhu handed over the proposed names of ministers on Wednesday.

As per reports, former PPCC chief Sunil Jakahr had objections in the names proposed for cabinet ministers. Party high command is also making sure to not give an absolute power to any MLAs, considering the 2022 assembly election in Punjab.

According to a Congress MLA, Congress wants some young faces in cabinet along with experience leaders in the state. Also party does not want give Sidhu all the power, as party is planning to ensure that power does not stay with one person. Congress leaders like, Sangat Singh Gilijian, Manpreet Singh Badal and Gukirat Singh Koti had also reached Delhi to find a seat in new cabinet for themselves. While reports also say that party’s senior leader Sunil Jakhar has been promised to get a powerful position in 2022 assembly election, if Congress comes to the power.
