10 best new St. Louis restaurants named by River Front Times

ST LOUIS/December 29, 2016 (STL.News) With 2016 coming to a close, it’s time to reflect on the best new restaurants and bars that decided to call St. Louis home this past year.  2016 was one of barbecue, fried chicken, and Neapolitan pizza, plus a very emphatic embrace of ramen.  Most of all, the year was marked by chefs and restaurateurs following their hearts and leaping forward to make some big splashes in the foodie world.  Educators opened Southampton-inspired cafes, veteran chefs opened restaurants with CSA-aspired décor, and long-time chefs turned their attention from the normal for the extraordinary.

Here is the list of the 10 best new St. Louis Restaurants of 2016:

1. Olive + Oak: Want blue crab and steak, all rolled into one entrée? Olive and Oak hit the St. Louis dining scene with a bang this year.
2. Vista Ramen: Noodle-soups, Asian-inspired appetizers, and array of fish broth describe this place.
3. Kounter Kulture: Fresh farmer’s market-sourced food with an imaginative menu.
4. Twisted Tree: More than just a generic sport’s bar. Peruse a menu with healthy and tasty options.
5. Parigi: A German-food masterpiece.
6. Edibles and Essentials: A deli, fast-casual dining place with the most delicious sandwiches known to man.
7. Local Chef Kitchen: This place is all about organically-sourced, GMO-free food that makes eating out both enjoyable and healthy at the same time.
8. Nathaniel Reid Bakery: Feast your eyes on the most beautiful and delectable savory sweets and desserts at this new bakery gem.
9. Big Baby Q: A Maryland Heights smoky BBQ joint that takes slow cooking, barbecue sauce, and a warm ambience pretty seriously.
10. Porano: Where Italian meets fast-casual, but manages to do so with high-quality, Italian-approved plates and desserts.

Honorable mentions included Yolklore, a breakfast spot in Crestwood, Melo’s Pizzeria, Neapolitan-inspired pizza plates, and Tai Ke, St. Louis’ first Taiwanese restaurant.
