An Insight on Gary Johnson

As election day draws near, the candidates are hard at work on their campaigns. While the media stresses every word and action of the republican and democrat candidates, it does not, however, say much about Gary Johnson. Gary Johnson is the 2016 presidential candidate for the Libertarian party. He is not only an author, businessman, and politician but a man of adventure.

Gary Johnson: An Overview

Gary Earl Johnson was born January 1st, 1953 in Minot, North Dakota. Following his young life, he attended the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque and obtained a degree in political sciences. While attending UNM, he met his future wife, Denise Simms with whom he had two children. Johnson has since moved on from Denise’s sudden death in 2006 and since become engaged to Kate Prusack. He started his own business in 1976 that focused on mechanical contracting and then went on to join the world of politics.

Gary Johnson has written two books; Seven Principles of Good Government: Gary Johnson on liberty, people and politics and Common Sense for the Common Good; Libertarianism as the End of Two-Party Tyranny. Both books express his views on our government and economy through his libertarian viewpoint. Seven Principles of Good Government: Gary Johnson on liberty, people and politics was published in 2012 while Common Sense for the Common Good; Libertarianism as the End of Two-Party Tyranny was just published in September of this year. He has also been a co-author of multiple books about the city of Chicago.

Gary Johnson started his own business following his graduation from college. Big J Enterprises started as a small mechanical contracting company where he was the only employee and grew rapidly. After receiving a contract deal with Intel, the companies revenue grew to $38 million. To deal with the sudden growth, Johnson enrolled in a night class on time management. By the time he sold the company in 1999, Big J Enterprises had grown to over 1,000 employees and was a leading construction company in New Mexico.

Johnson joined the political world in 1994 when he began his campaign to be Governor of New Mexico. After winning the election, he became the 29th Governor of New Mexico. He served in office from 1994 to 2003 when he was succeeded by Bill Richardson. From there, he went on to run for the presidency in 2012 as the Libertarian candidate but was not elected. He currently is running in the 2016 presidential election, again as the Libertarian Candidate.

Man of Adventure:

Gary Johnson is not only a politician, businessman, and author, but also an avid seeker of experience. Fitness plays a large role in Johnson’s life. He has completed 17 marathons, four of which were Ironman triathlons. Aside from marathons, Johnson has scaled the largest highest mountains on all seven continents, including Everest, which he climbed with a still-healing broken leg. Other activities he enjoys include paragliding, bicycling, and skiing. Overall, it is said that if Johnson is the most physically fit presidential candidate of all time.

Gary Johnson is a man made from his many life experiences. Will these attributes help him complete the new challenges he is faced with as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Election?
